What will you learn in this Engineering Studies: Boilermaker N2 course?
This course is theoretical training to prospective artisans via the NATED Programme. N2 is the intermediate level in this 3-level engineering programme. Learn the skills and techniques to manufacture and build structures of steel, plate and piping ranging from boilers for steam engines and pressure vessels for power stations and petrochemical plants, to mining headgear, bridges and oil-drilling platforms.

Course Start Dates
With College SA you can start studying whenever you want, there are no specific course start dates since we offer distance learning. Please speak to our Educational Planners about your enrolment and study options.
- College SA fees do not include external exam fees.
- Exam fees fluctuate from centre to centre
- Exam fees are payable separately by the student to College SA who will then pay it to the examination centre.
- Exams are written in April, August and November of each year.
- You are eligible for the exams once you have successfully completed three written assignments; once you have registered, the school will advise you on the assignment- and exam registration deadlines.
You have to successfully complete and submit the required 3 assignments per subject in order for College SA to prepare your term mark. College SA will ensure that term marks are submitted to your exam venue and, together with your exam, these are submitted to the Department of Higher Education and Training for evaluation. Once you have successfully completed all the required national exams you will be awarded a National Certificate.

Subjects are the particular fields of study that are covered in a course. The subjects below make up this course and will need to be completed in order for you to complete this course.
This module firstly gives you an overview of Mathematics N1; terms and factors, fractions, root and exponential forms. Learn about the laws of exponents, solve equations, linear equations, factorisation, using algebraic graphs to calculate function value. Get the skills to work with trigonometric ratios by defining the six ratios. Learn how to solve right-angled triangles by means of trigonometric functions.
Engineering Science Theory N2
This module firstly gives you an overview of Engineering Science N1; the background principles required to understand the engineering systems. You will cover the following scientific elements energy, work, power, composition of matter, statics, dynamics and electricity.
Plating and Structural Steel Drawing N2
Learn how to correctly and skillfully use drawing equipment. Equip yourself with the skills to draw geometrical figures by means of a compass, drawing instruments and according to corresponding scale. Learn about first angle orthographic projection, welding and parallel, radical and triangulation line methods.
Platers' Theory N2
You will be able to describe the terms of a steelwork roof truss; wall plates, pitch, tie beam, king post, queen post. Learn how to use the Pythagoras Theorem. In this module you will be able to identify and compare the functions of the main parts of a contour marker and centre-finder. Describe using free-hand drawing how to determine the saddle depth of a t-piece of unequal diameters, centre to face (C-F) distance on a pipe bend.
