What will you learn in this Engineering Studies: Boilermaker N2 course?
This course provides theoretical training to artisans and is offered via the NATED programme. N1 is the foundation level in this 3-level engineering programme and learners will be exposed to the mathematics, science and drawing skills which form the basis of this course. Learn the skills and techniques needed to manufacture and build structures of steel (made of plates and piping) for boilers for steam engines, and pressure vessels for power stations and petrochemical plants; as well as mining headgear, bridges and oil-drilling platforms.

What subjects make up this course:
What are subjects?
Subjects are the particular fields of study that are covered in a course. The subjects below make up this course and will need to be completed in order for you to complete this course.
This module gives you an overview of Mathematics N1 terms and factors, fractions, and root and exponential forms. Learn about the laws of exponents, how to solve equations, linear equations, factorisation, and how to use algebraic graphs to calculate function value. Gain the skills needed to work with trigonometric ratios by defining the six ratios. Learn how to solve right-angled triangles by means of trigonometric functions.
Engineering Science Theory N2
This module gives you an overview of N1 engineering scientific principles you need to know in order to understand engineering systems. You will cover the following: energy, work, power, composition of matter, statics, dynamics and electricity.
Plating & Structural Steel Drawing N2
Learn how to use drawing equipment correctly and skillfully. Equip yourself with the skills needed to draw geometrical figures by means of a compass and drawing instruments, and according to corresponding scale. Learn about first angle orthographic projection; welding; and parallel, radical, and triangulation line methods.
Platers' Theory N2
You will be able to describe steelwork roof trusses, wall plates, pitches, tie beams, king posts and queen posts. You will also learn how to use the Pythagoras Theorem. In this module, you will learn how to identify and compare the functions of the main parts of a contour marker and centre -finder. You will learn how to describe -using free-hand drawing -how to determine the saddle depth of a t-piece of unequal diameters, centre to face (C-F) distance on a pipe bend.
