What will you learn in this Engineering Studies: Boilermaker N3 course?
This course provides theoretical training to artisans and is offered via the NATED programme. N1 is the foundation level in this 3-level engineering programme and learners will be exposed to the mathematics, science and drawing skills which form the basis of this course. Learn the skills and techniques needed to manufacture and build structures of steel (made of plates and piping) for boilers for steam engines, and pressure vessels for power stations and petrochemical plants; as well as mining headgear, bridges and oil-drilling platforms.

Course Starting Dates
With College SA, you can start studying whenever you want: there are no specific course starting dates since we offer distance learning. Please speak to our Educational Planners about your enrolment and study options.
- College SA fees do not include external exam fees.
- Exam fees fluctuate from centre to centre
- Exam fees are payable separately by the student to College SA who will then pay it to the examination centre.
- Exams are written in April, August and November of each year.
- You are eligible for the exams once you have successfully completed three written assignments; once you have registered, the school will advise you on the assignment- and exam registration deadlines.
You have to successfully complete and submit the required 3 assignments per subject in order for College SA to prepare your term mark. College SA will ensure that term marks are submitted to your exam venue and, together with your exam, these are submitted to the Department of Higher Education and Training for evaluation. Once you have successfully completed all the required national exams, you will be awarded a National Certificate.

This module gives you an overview of terms and factors, fractions, and root and exponential forms. Learn about surds and logarithms, equations, word problems and manipulation of technical formulae. Gain the skills needed to do differential calculus, geometry of co-ordinates, algebraic graphs and trigonometry.
Engineering Science N3
Learn how engineering systems work. Gain knowledge about energy, work, power, composition of matter, statics, dynamics and electricity, and how they work.
This module will help you understand the purpose for power transmission, brakes and bearings. Learn about water pumps, cooling and lubrication, hydraulics and pneumatics, internal combustion engines, cranes and lifting machines, and material processes.
Plating & Structural Steel Drawing N3
Learn the definitions, terminology and fundamentals of plating and structural steelworkers drawing; as well as advanced penetrations, double projection on pipes, plate thickness considerations and structural steel detailing.
