Simply put, these are IT personnel who oversee different computer systems including software, applications or hardware. They are responsible for testing, configuring, and troubleshooting hardware, software, and networking systems to meet the needs of the organisation.

If you’re interested in studying IT Engineering, Optimi College’s IT Academy has options. Their 6-month IT Engineer classroom course offers a good balance of theory and training experience, while their highly skilled facilitators have the extensive industry experience to successfully guide learners throughout the course. Classes are held at their Tygervalley campus in Bellville, Cape Town. Registrations are now open, and classes start on 07 August 2023.

The IT Engineering course covers CompTIA A+ (Hardware, Software, Troubleshooting), CompTIA N+ (Networking), CompTIA Server+, CompTIA Security+, and CCNA (Routing & Switching) certification courses.

Once you’ve completed this course, you could work in either the public or private sector in almost any industry you can think of. You can work as an IT Engineer, IT Technician, IT Support Technician, or IT Helpdesk Consultant. You also have the option of studying further. IT Engineers can earn an average of R232k per annum according to Payscale.

Alternatively, if full-time classes do not suit your schedule, you can consider their CompTIA A+ and Network+ evening classes. Classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday, with one Saturday session per month, and runs over a period of 3 months. These classes are also held at Optimi College’s Tygervalley campus in Bellville, Cape Town.

Not in Cape Town? No worries. You can still register for an IT Engineer course no matter where you are. Optimi College has a distance and online learning option in this field of specialisation, meaning you can complete the course from the comfort of your own home.
